2017 // Horizon: Zero Dawn
2017 was another one of those years where I didn’t get to play a lot, but there was a lot that actually came out that was great.
Fortnite came out and took the world by storm. Nioh, Resident Evil VII – there were a lot of big, new games to pop up this year. But some I’ve only been able to play recently, others I still haven’t.
One of those games, though, is Horizon: Zero Dawn, which I bought recently in a sale after wanting it for so long. I really wish I had bought it sooner.
Why? because I had been wanting a console level Monster Hunter game for a while – World wasn’t a thing yet – and Horizon scratches that itch quite well. It’s definitely more story focused than your usual MonHun-like, but it hits all the right markers. Collecting resources from “monsters” to craft new weapons and gear?
Tracking down “monsters” by following their tracks and picking up clues to their whereabouts?
It’s not quite as in-depth as MonHun, but if you’re looking at getting into that style of game – Horizon would be a decent, simple place to start.
