#5 “Cenobia” – Shadow of the Colossus

5-Cenobia

Why Was It Chosen?

Of all the Colossi in SotC, Cenobia was the one I had the most fun with.

It’s not entirely unique – there’s another colossus that appears earlier that is very similar in look to Cenobia, however, the way you fight it is entirely different. Unlike other colossi in the game, where the colossus itself is the landscape, Cenobia requires you to actually use the environment to your advantage.

You’re required to climb the various pillars and ledges in the surrounding area to lure Cenobia into ramming them. When it does, the pillar will fall, allowing you access to the next. Your ultimate goal is to get Cenobia to knock a pillar over and break down the wall blocking it from getting into the opening area.

Once done, you now have to lure Cenobia into ramming the pillar beneath the opening ledge – which causes it to collapse on top of it, breaking its armor and finally exposing its glyph.

The fight required a bit of thinking and planning to tackle – and Cenobia was quite agile. If you weren’t quick enough, it could easily catch you and headbutt Wander into unconsciousness.

Not too hard, not too easy – and didn’t really suffer from the control problems a lot of the other colossi suffered from. An overall satisfying battle.
